St. Johns River Country is the perfect vacation spot for people who want to slow down their pace for a while and enjoy nature. Some Florida cities have a reputation for being touristy, and when vacation season arrives, you know these cities will be teeming with visitors who all want to see the same attractions. Fortunately for us, St. Johns River Country is way too quiet and too peaceful to qualify as touristy. Look at some of the things that make St. Johns River Country a pleasant place to get away from it all!

Unique Activities and Attractions

One of the main reasons people go on vacation is to see and experience things that they don’t have access to at home. St. Johns River Country is chock-full of these types of activities and attractions. Generally, vacationers head to the Hontoon Landing Resort & Marina to rent a boat for a fishing trip on the St. Johns River or spend some time paddling a kayak. But this marina offers its visitors a little something extra: hummingbirds! This marina is a meeting place for ruby-throated hummingbirds. The trees and plants around this marina are especially attractive to these incredible creatures. Visitors can spend hours watching these hummingbirds come and go as they please. Families and others on vacation in St. Johns River Country also can take the opportunity to visit the Alpacas of Willow Hill. This farm is home to more than 30 alpacas. Visitors can learn about these extraordinary animals that have a knack for entertaining people. The Artisan Alley farmers’ market happens every Friday in DeLand. Visitors support local farmers when they purchase the vegetables, fruits and other delicious foods on display. It’s fun to look for homemade items to give to family and friends back home.

Local Festivals

Some people plan their vacation to St. Johns River Country around certain festivals. For example, there is the Manatee Festival. Visitors get to observe Florida manatees and learn about their habits. Also, this festival features music, craft shows, dancing, and games. The proceeds from this festival support Blue Spring State Park, a refuge for manatees. The annual DeLand Watermelon Festival is another unique experience for visitors to the area. Train rides, watermelon-eating contests, a petting zoo, crafts, and grilled watermelon are just a few things visitors can enjoy at this festival. The Volusia County Caribbean American Heritage Festival and the Orange City Gospel Fest are two other popular festivals to check out.
